Lutheran extended their home winning streak to 21 games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Kade Speckman. The Lutheran Lions secured a 65-59 W over the Golden Demons on Friday for which the team can thank Speckman, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine boards. His big performance that evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points.
The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Makkai, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 14 points. Those 14 points gave him a new career-high.
Several Demons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leif Hansen, who shot 55% from the field en route to 19 points and five rebounds. Hansen is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Sam Schillie, who went 5-for-6 on his way to 12 points.
Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 21-3. As for Golden, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-11 record this season.
Lutheran will be playing at home against Green Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Green Mountain will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Lutheran surely won't give up without a fight. Golden does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
