The Bloomfield Bobcats will be taking part in a tournament against the West Mesa Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bloomfield has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bloomfield had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Piedra Vista put an end to it on Tuesday. The Bobcats lost 18-0 to the Panthers.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for West Mesa, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against Los Alamos by a score of 11-8 on Saturday.
Neveah Ortiz made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ortiz was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Ellie Padilla was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Mya Baca was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
West Mesa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .595. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
West Mesa's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Bloomfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
West Mesa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bloomfield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for West Mesa, though, as they've been averaging 11.3 hits. Given Bloomfield's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bloomfield skirted past West Mesa 8-7 in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
