Even though the Seaside Spartans have not done well against the Pacific Grove Breakers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Seaside narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Pacific Grove 40-37. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Seaside.
Pacific Grove's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Nimri, who scored five points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Valencia, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Seaside has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-9 record this season. As for Pacific Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
Seaside will be playing in front of their home fans against Watsonville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Watsonville and Seaside are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. As for Pacific Grove, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Francis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Francis is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
