IV Section II recap October 8, 2013
Sean Fanning and Dan Gastellum provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Sahuarita. The connection was good for 80 yards, the longest such play in IV Section II this season.
Safford was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. The Bulldogs defeated Amphitheater 35-21 earlier in the week.
Chris Garrobo was a force in the backfield as Safford topped the Panthers.
Ray Holbrook threw for 335 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 21-38 with 0 interceptions.
Garrobo was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 30 carries, he ran for 269 yards as Michael Alba's team lost to Michael Alba's team. Isidro Sanchez also contributed to the rushing game with 25 yards on the ground.
5-foot-10 quarterback Holbrook of Brandon Willard's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 989. He has also thrown 7 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Milo Fragoso. The Sahuarita star has 37 catches for 656 yards.
Next week's game between the Panthers and the Mustangs will feature an aerial matchup as Holbrook tests his arm against Kayden Bedolla's defensive ability.
An important game coming up in IV Section II this week will be when Rio Rico takes on Palo Verde. As it stands, the Hawks are in fourth, while the Titans are in first.
Sahuarita took down Rio Rico 42-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Rocko Vega threw for 130 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 11 yards during the win.
