TAPPS Division I District 1 recap November 19, 2013
Bishop Dunne moved up to 206 from 249 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in TAPPS Division I District 1. The Falcons were able to move up by beating Antonian Prep 42-23.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Prestonwood Christian beat Cathedral 51-7. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Christian Hutzler threw for 281 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 25-37 with 2 interceptions.
Luke Alves was the best running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 146 yards as Nolan Catholic defeated St. Pius X. David Authier also contributed to the rushing game with 120 yards on the ground.
On the heels of Hutzler and Nahshon Ellerbe, the Trojans have had great success on offense. Hutzler leads the league in passing with 3,169 yards, while Ellerbe has rushed for 1,531 yards this season. Prestonwood Christian's Michael Irvin leads the league in receiving yards with 907 on 66 catches.
Irvin of the Chris Cunningham's team's is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 93 receiving yards in this week's game against Concordia Lutheran to get there. He has recorded 66 catches for 907 yards this year.
Accruing a total of 17 touchdowns this year, Barrett Renner has thrown for 1,827 yards with 7 interceptions.
An important game coming up in TAPPS Division I District 1 this week will be when Bishop Dunne takes on Trinity Christian. At the moment, Michael Johnson's team is in fifth, while Steve Hayes' team is in second.
The Trojans and the Panthers played the closest game in the league this week, with the Trojans eventually emerging with a 28-27 victory. Hutzler in the win.
