Braydon Marlowe and Ross Fickling made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Marlowe struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Meanwhile, Fickling tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bunker Hill is 5-1 when Marlowe allowsone or fewer hits, but 3-5 otherwise. At the plate, Marlowe scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Fickling went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Marlowe a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kamden Bortz and Corey Canipe did most of the damage at the plate: Bortz scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Canipe scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Bortz has become a key player for Bunker Hill: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Eckard, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Bunker Hill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, West Lincoln entered their contest against Maiden on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. West Lincoln fell just short of Maiden by a score of 4-3. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 2, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Bunker Hill's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for West Lincoln, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
