To celebrate their championship, MaxPreps and the Indiana Army National Guard visited Carmel High School on Wednesday, Jan. 11 to present the team with the coveted Army National Guard national ranking trophy during halftime of the boys basketball game. To build the excitement among the student body, Sergeant Justin Wilson set up a trophy display in the cafeteria during the school's lunch period.
Later that evening, the trophy was displayed in the Eric Clark Activity Center during the JV game. Many students and parents stopped by the display to take pictures of the Minuteman trophy and ask questions about the National Guard.
Before the ceremony, head coach John Hebert and the players took formal photos with the trophy and received commemorative shirts. As the buzzer sounded to finish the first half, SGT Wilson escorted the team to the gym floor.
Carmel public address announcer introduced MaxPreps representative Todd Townsend and SGT Wilson to make the special presentation. The crowd cheered loudly as Townsend kicked it off and welcomed the championship team and coaching staff to half court. The cheers led to a standing ovation, as everyone acknowledged SGT Wilson as he walked onto the basketball court with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy.
SGT Wilson congratulated the team on their season accomplishments and awarded the trophy to Coach Hebert and the Greyhounds. Coach Herbert thanked the parents, student body, fans and administration for their support in making this championship run possible.
The Army National Guard and MaxPreps congratulate Coach John Hebert and the Carmel Greyhounds on a great season, a state championship and a high national ranking!
