Basketball Game Preview: Economedes Jaguars vs. Edinburg Bobcats

Economedes hasn't had much luck against Edinburg recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Economedes Jaguars duke it out with the Edinburg Bobcats at 7:30 p.m.

Economedes came up into this matchup off a tough 29-point defeat on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo by a score of 36-34 on Tuesday. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Economedes had strong showings from Gabby Maldonado, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 16 points and eight steals, and Yazmin Ayala, who posted seven points and six steals. The dominant performance gave Ayala a new career-high in steals.

Meanwhile, Edinburg came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 58-52 W over the Coyotes.

Economedes better focus on containing Yuri Perez and Arianee Salazar as the pair were huge in Edinburg's win. Perez put up 33 points and five rebounds, while Salazar almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Perez has scored at least a third of Edinburg's points.

Economedes' defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Edinburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 15-12 record this season.

Economedes was taken down by Edinburg 78-29 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Economedes was down 46-10.
