Haines City was the victim of a rough 70-45 defeat at the hands of Winter Haven. Haines City has not had much luck with Winter Haven recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Despite the loss, Haines City saw an underclassman step up: Zebrelle Canaday scored 19 points. Canaday scored a full 42.2% of Haines City's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Mikeyla Hill was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Winter Haven was led to victory by Serenity Hardy and Jaeden Williams. Hardy scored 23 points along with five rebounds and five steals, while Williams scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals. The contest was Hardy's 17th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quin?nya Gray de sanders, who scored 11 points along with six steals.
Haines City's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Winter Haven, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
Haines City will be playing in front of their home fans against Mater Brighton Lakes Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mater Brighton Lakes Academy is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses. As for Winter Haven, they will square off against Somerset Prep at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Somerset Prep has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Winter Haven will arrive with four straight wins.
