Fuquay-Varina has gone 9-1 against Middle Creek recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Bengals will take on the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Fuquay-Varina knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Middle Creek likes a good challenge.
Middle Creek's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Fuquay-Varina hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Bengals put the hurt on South Garner with a sharp 18-0 victory on Friday. The Bengals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Jolie Veloza was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lydia Feldner, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.
Fuquay-Varina was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Middle Creek unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They lost 7-1 to Cardinal Gibbons. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.
Kennedy Johnson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Fuquay-Varina has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Middle Creek, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 9-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fuquay-Varina has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Middle Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fuquay-Varina got the 'W' when the teams last played back in February of 2025 against Middle Creek by a conclusive 17-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bengals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
