Softball Recap: Hinsdale South Extends Winning Streak to Three

Hinsdale South extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 7-22-1 in the process. They beat the Willowbrook Warriors by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 18-15. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 18-15 victory on Friday.

Hinsdale South let Lauren Bishop and Kayla Buckels-Meen run wild. Bishop went 3-for-6 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs, while Buckels-Meen went 4-for-6 with one home run, five runs, and four RBI. Bishop has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Lucas, who went 2-for-6 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Hinsdale South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .380. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .380 or higher in three consecutive matches.

As for Willowbrook, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-12. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly three runs.

On Willowbrook's side, Marli Smrz stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Smrz has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Liz Pettinger, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hinsdale South will head out to take on Leyden at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Willowbrook, they will venture away from home to square off against Proviso East at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
