Quincy is on a five-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Mahomet-Seymour is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Quincy Blue Devils will take on the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Quincy was fully in charge, breezing past Geneseo 35-7 at home. 35 seems to be a good number for Quincy as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Jeraius Rice JR continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 205 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also catching a touchdown. Rice JR is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bradyn Little, who threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Mahomet-Seymour took their contest on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-6 victory over Mattoon. Mahomet-Seymour's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Lucas Dyer and Luke Johnson were among the main playmakers for Mahomet-Seymour as the former threw for 175 yards and five touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes and the latter gained 157 total yards and three touchdowns. Trey Peters did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 30 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Mattoon to a paltry 129 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mahomet-Seymour's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jayvon Irwin and his two sacks.
Their wins bumped Quincy to 8-0 and Mahomet-Seymour to 7-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Quincy has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 440.4 total yards per game. However, it's not like Mahomet-Seymour struggles in that department as they've been averaging 373.8 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
