Acalanes let Esa Orman and Emme Young run wild. Orman went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Young scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave Young a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Huerta, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Acalanes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Benicia didn't have quite enough to beat Clayton Valley Charter on Thursday and fell 5-3.
Alana Robinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Aryanna Banks-Lockhart was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Alex Richardson also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
Benicia has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Acalanes, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Benicia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Acalanes has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .528. It's a different story for Benicia, though, as they've only averaged .362. Will they be able to contain Acalanes' hitters?
Acalanes suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Benicia when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can the Dons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
