The Weslaco Panthers are taking a road trip to face off against the La Joya Coyotes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Weslaco will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Weslaco is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Economedes: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Weslaco blew Economedes out of the water with a 72-20 final score. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Pete Cantu continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, as he made all 6 shots he took for 12 points along with five assists and five boards. That's the most assists he has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of JD Martinez, who posted 11 points.
They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Weslaco was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Economedes only racked up four assists.
Meanwhile, La Joya had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 65-47 victory over the Bears. The Coyotes pushed the score to 55-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bears cut but never quite recovered from.
La Joya's win came from a few key players Weslaco will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Aydin Wilder-Bey, who went 6 for 10 en route to 15 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tito Garcia, who earned three points in addition to ten steals and five assists.
La Joya is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-19 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Weslaco, their record is now 23-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Weslaco has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.9 boards per game. However, it's not like La Joya struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Weslaco strolled past La Joya when the teams last played back in January by a score of 57-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Weslaco since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
