Scarlett Ellis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Janiah Vargas, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lydia Bollinger, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, New Bern was able to grind out a solid victory over South Central on Tuesday, taking the game 5-1. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won three in a row.
Anna Champey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits.
At the plate, Andersyn Lane was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Bella Colon was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Heritage's record now sits at 21-2. As for New Bern, their record is now 18-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Heritage has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like New Bern struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.2 strikeouts.
