Softball Recap: Mississinawa Valley Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Mississinawa Valley had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Preble Shawnee Arrows. The Blackhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Ella Godfrey was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cayde Neukam, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Cora Hoggatt was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Mississinawa Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mississinawa Valley pushed their record up to 10-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Preble Shawnee, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Coming up, Mississinawa Valley will take on Lehman Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Preble Shawnee, they will welcome Troy Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Arrows are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
