Softball Recap: Emporia Wins Going Away Against Highland Park

Emporia never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Highland Park Scots. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Alivia Barrett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Barrett was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Yzabel Ultreras was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Atlyn Heffron was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Emporia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland Park only posted an OBP of .000.

The victory made it two in a row for Emporia and bumps their season record up to 4-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Highland Park, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Emporia wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 15-0 defeat against Washburn Rural on the 8th. As for Highland Park, they will host Atchison at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
