Given Northwood Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Hurricanes are ranked 54th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
alayah birch was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 15 rebounds. Birch is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Morgan Jones, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Northwood Academy pushed their record up to 20-2 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points per game. As for First Baptist School, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-9.
Northwood Academy will take on the NaviGators at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lowcountry Leadership comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for First Baptist School, they will head out on the road to take on the Cyclones at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
