Primero hasn't had much luck against La Veta recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Primero Bulldogs will welcome the La Veta Redhawks at 4:30 p.m. La Veta took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Primero, who comes in off a win.
Primero took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They blew past Walsenburg 54-30.

Primero got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Riley Monarco out in front who went 5 for 12 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds. Those 14 points gave Monarco a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyvia Robinson, who posted ten points in addition to six boards and three steals.
Meanwhile, La Veta played a tough matchup on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Kim/Branson, falling 63-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Redhawks have suffered against the Mustangs since February 20, 2021.
Primero will have to contain Aspen Autry as she made an impact in La Veta's last game. She went 11 of 20 on her way to 24 points and five steals. The contest was Autry's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Marianna De La Cruz was another key player, going 5 for 10 en route to 12 points.
Primero's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-7. As for La Veta, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Primero has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 28.2 boards per game. However, it's not like La Veta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Primero came up short against La Veta in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 51-45. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Autry, who went 14 of 26 on her way to 28 points along with six steals and five assists. Now that Primero knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
