American Leadership Academy is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Summit Academy an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The American Leadership Academy Eagles will welcome the Summit Academy Bears at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
American Leadership Academy lost 21-11 to Provo on Friday. Even if the Eagles couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Saydee Carter made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Ana Hernandez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Summit Academy). They blew past Judge Memorial Catholic 23-8 on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Bears have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since April 27, 2022.
The team relied heavily on Kaylee Luttio, who went 3-for-4 with six stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellie Sylvia, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Summit Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .805. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
American Leadership Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Summit Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. American Leadership Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Summit Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went American Leadership Academy's way against Summit Academy when the teams last played back in March, as American Leadership Academy made off with a 23-7 victory. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
