The Nogales Apaches posted their biggest victory yet this season on Thursday. They blew past Cholla 54-10 at home. Given Nogales' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Cholla is ranked 278th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cecilia Burruel was her usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-6 from deep and dropping a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Johanna Simpson, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Nogales pushed their record up to 9-11 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Cholla, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-12.
Nogales will head out on the road to face off against Cienega at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cholla won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Flowing Wells at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Flowing Wells is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
