Even though the Thayer Central Titans have not done well against the Deshler Dragons recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Thayer Central strolled past Deshler with points to spare, taking the game 52-33. Given Thayer Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Deshler is ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Sam Souerdyke, who scored 25 points along with six steals and five rebounds. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Heitmann, who scored 12 points.
The win was the third in a row for Thayer Central, bringing their record for this year to 7-2. As for Deshler, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thayer Central will challenge Sutton on Friday. As for Deshler, they will head out on the road to face off against Hampton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
