Two dominant in Tyvonn Byars and Isaiah Nguyen are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lake Creek Lions will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Port Neches-Groves Indians at 7:00 p.m. on November 24th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lake Creek had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They claimed a resounding 78-27 win over Crockett on the road. Given Lake Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Crockett is ranked 569th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lake Creek can attribute much of their success to Eli Morcos, who rushed for 40 yards and two touchdowns, and Byars, who rushed for 208 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. Lake Creek also got help from Brooks Mcgee who showed off his sure hands for 82 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Port Neches-Groves came tearing into Friday's matchup with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Rouse 51-14 at home. Port Neches-Groves pushed the score to 51-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Rouse cut but never quite recovered from.
Blair Chatagnier had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 191 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries. Chatagnier was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Nguyen also helped out as he racked up 149 rushing yards.
Lake Creek's win bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Port Neches-Groves, they have yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 11-1 record.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Lake Creek has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 434 total yards per game. However, it's not like Port Neches-Groves struggles in that department as they've been averaging 379.8 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other football content.
