Softball Recap: Brodhead Snags 12th Win in Last 14 Games

Brodhead came out on top against Big Foot on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run seventh inning. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Chiefs. Considering the Cardinals have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Risum was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.

In other batting news, Keegan Steinke and Mady Henning did most of the damage at the plate: Steinke went 3-for-4 with one run and one double, while Henning went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits Steinke has posted since back in May of 2024. Leah Rear was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Brodhead is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Big Foot, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-8 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brodhead will venture away from home to square off against Evansville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Big Foot, they will head out to face off against Turner at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something the Chiefs surely won't give up without a fight.
