Tulare Western and Dinuba are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will square off against the Emperors at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Tulare Western sitting on seven straight victories and Dinuba on nine.
Tulare Western will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating Mission Oak, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Mustangs came out on top against the Hawks by a score of 11-8 on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their two-run performance the game before.
Alivea Salcedo was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Emily Leon also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Dinuba earned a 5-1 win over Hanford on Friday.
Neveah Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kiley Gomez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Samantha Ortega, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Dinuba's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Tulare Western, their record now sits at 9-2-1.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tulare Western hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Dinuba struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Tulare Western's way against Dinuba when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Tulare Western made off with an 11-1 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Emperors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
