North Salinas and Gonzales are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the North Salinas Vikings will jump right back in to play the Gonzales Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. North Salinas is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
On Wednesday, North Salinas ended up a good deal behind Everett Alvarez and lost 64-50. North Salinas has struggled against Everett Alvarez recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, North Salinas had strong showings from Demajae Roberson, who scored seven points along with six assists, and David Jauregui, who scored eight points. Jauregui also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Shane Taylor was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Gonzales had to endure a nine-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They took their game at home last Monday with ease, bagging a 70-31 victory over Ceiba College Preparatory Academy. Gonzales' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
North Salinas has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Gonzales, their win ended a 13-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-5.
Everything came up roses for North Salinas against Gonzales in their previous meeting back in February as the squad secured a 66-38 victory. With North Salinas ahead 37-12 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
