The South Point Red Raiders pushed their score all the way to 56 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Episcopal School of Jacksonville. While losing is never fun, South Point can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 140th in North Carolina, while Episcopal School of Jacksonville is ranked 39th in Florida).
South Point's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaishawn Woods, who scored 11 points. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Greyson Kines, who scored nine points.
South Point has fallen quite a ways from their 25-5 record last season and are now at 3-5. As for Episcopal School of Jacksonville, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.
South Point is on the road again on Friday and play against Hampton County at 10:30 a.m. on December 29, 2023. Episcopal School of Jacksonville won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Marietta at 1:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023.
