Baseball Recap: Oak Ridge Has No Trouble Against Cocoa

Oak Ridge's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They blew past the Cocoa Tigers 14-4. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pioneers considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Kengel Navarro and Isaac Gomez made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Navarro struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Gomez tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave Navarro a new career-high. At bat, Navarro scored two runs and stole six bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Gomez scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Those runs marked the first that Navarro scored this season.

In other batting news, Santiago Velasquez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Oak Ridge is undefeated when Velasquez posts two or more runs, but 1-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Aaron Valle, who scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Oak Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cocoa only posted an OBP of .423.

Oak Ridge's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-12. As for Cocoa, they are on a 31-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-17.

Coming up, Oak Ridge will square off against Legacy Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.57 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cocoa, they will take on Palm Bay at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
