Brilliant extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 15 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-6. They came up short against the Carbon Hill Bulldogs, falling 17-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 two weeks ago.
Tyson Lee was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
As for Carbon Hill, their win ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
On Carbon Hill's side, Brody Sides was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Sides a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Carbon Hill let Ryley Bainbridge and Marcus Pierce run wild. Bainbridge got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Pierce went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Pierce has become a key player for Carbon Hill: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Seth Edwards, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coincidentally, Brilliant and Carbon Hill will both be playing Berry the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will head out to face the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Tigers will host them at 4:30 p.m. on the 31st.
