The Commerce Tigers pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Elbert County 59-55. Commerce has not had much luck with the Blue Devils recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Commerce still got an impressive performance from Evan Peters, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. Essien Lockleer was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elbert County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aj Brown, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bob Thomas, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Commerce dropped their record down to 8-15 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Elbert County, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-17.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Commerce will take on the Eagles at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. As for Elbert County, they will head out on the road to face off against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Rabun County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 matchups.
