Crown Point got a great performance from Logan Johnston as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Johnston a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Mick Vagner was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Dunlap, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Crown Point hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lowell struck out 11 times.
Northridge hit Chesterton with a five-run seventh inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered since June 3, 2024.
Andrew Goveia was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.
Crown Point pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Chesterton, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.
Crown Point's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Bulldogs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Chesterton, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Crown Point continue to outrun the ball?
Crown Point might still be hurting after the 14-6 loss they got from Chesterton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
