The York Dukes are taking a road trip to face off against the Fairbury Jeffs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. York is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
York will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Aurora on Friday. York blew past Aurora 20-4. Considering the Dukes have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Thomas Bonde made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Bonde was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, York let Ashtyn Demuth and Carsen Pieper run wild. Demuth scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Pieper scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Demuth also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jackson Holoch, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
York always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Fairbury was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 7-2 to Malcolm.
Fairbury saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CJ Goeking, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Fairbury's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for York, their record is now 3-1.
Fairbury's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: York hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316.
