After flying high against Spanish Fork last Tuesday, Salem Hills came back down to earth. Salem Hills' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alexa Vance, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points in addition to six boards and four steals, and Brooke Warren, who went 5 for 12 en route to 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Warren continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Chenielle Nye, who posted four points and 12 boards.
Even though they lost, Salem Hills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maple Mountain only pulled down eight offensive boards.
Maple Mountain found their leader in sophomore Leah Bailey, who went 5 for 11 to rack up 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Autumn Jones, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
The loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 18-4. As for Maple Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.
Coming up, Salem Hills will challenge Cedar Valley at 5:15 p.m. on February 14th. As for Maple Mountain, they will take on Wasatch at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Wasatch will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Maple Mountain surely won't give up without a fight.
