Washington (Ill.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as it ran for a touchdown with less than a minute remaining, bringing the team to victory over
Metamora (Ill.) 19-14.
The Panthers saw their 7-point halftime lead fall to six entering the fourth.
Dekota Doerr played well for the Redbirds. The senior ran for one touchdown and caught one touchdown.
Washington had given up an average of 11.8 points prior to the contest. Metamora's 14 points were below its season average of 20.9 per game.
The victory will ease some of the sting of WHS's close 27-24 loss to MHS last season.
The loss comes after Metamora defeated Limestone 33-12 last week.
