Valley has gone 8-2 against Bernalillo recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Vikings are taking a road trip to challenge the Spartans at 3:30 p.m. Valley will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Valley barely beat Los Alamos the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings put the hurt on the Hilltoppers with a sharp 16-5 victory on Wednesday.
Taylor Fredrickson looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alex Hernandez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Tobias Romero was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Bernalillo started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Albuquerque Academy. They fell 10-5 to the Chargers on Tuesday.
Bernalillo saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Acosta, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Bernalillo has also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-12 record this season. As for Valley, their record is now 8-17.
Valley beat Bernalillo 5-1 in their previous meeting on April 14th. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
