Basketball Recap: Decatur Piles Up the Points Against Jefferson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Decatur). They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging an 85-55 win over the Jefferson Raiders. The score was close at the half, but the Golden Gators pulled away in the second half with 54 points.

Jorge Martinez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 9 of 12 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven assists and six steals. The game was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dar Mcjimpson Jr, who posted 18 points.

Decatur smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Khamari Johnson and Ikaika Frank certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Johnson put up 20 points along with eight boards and three steals, while Frank had 13 points. Johnson has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played.

Decatur's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Jefferson, their loss was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-12.

Decatur didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-66 win against Evergreen on the 10th. As for Jefferson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 113-37 defeat against Foster on the 10th.
