Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of President Calamaco and Aiden Zavala Lead Tivy to Victory

Tivy waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Harlandale Indians by a score of 42-34. The Antlers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Indians, too.

Leading Tivy to victory were Aiden Zavala and President Calamaco. Zavala gained 152 total yards and a touchdown, while Calamaco picked up 124 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Calamaco's longest reception was for an incredible 73 yards. Brodie Dale got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Tivy didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Harlandale to a completion percentage of just 47.2%. The team can thank Josh Wheatfall for the heroic effort on defense: he. That's the best completion percentage they've posted all season.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Tivy, racking up 18 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Dale, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a punt return touchdown from Wheatfall.

Despite the loss, Harlandale had strong showings from Unyces Cestou Garcia, who threw for 260 yards and three TDs, and Armando Munoz, who picked up 98 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Those passing touchdowns marked the first that Cestou Garcia has passed for this season.

Tivy's record now sits at 4-1. As for Harlandale, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Looking ahead, Tivy will square off against Victoria West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' defense has only allowed nine points per game this season, so the Antlers' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Harlandale, they will challenge Alamo Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians will need to watch out since the Mules have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
