Given Ezekiel Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Tuscaloosa Home Educators is ranked 334th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ezekiel Academy found their leader in underclassman Addi Newell, who scored 16 points along with seven steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Newell has scored at least a third of Ezekiel Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Johnson, who scored ten points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Tuscaloosa Home Educators lost, one person who can't be blamed is Esther Miller. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points.
Ezekiel Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. As for Tuscaloosa Home Educators, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.
