Basketball Recap: G Applewhite Key Part of a Team Effort in Raiders Win

Southampton Academy won the last time they faced Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot and things went their way on Thursday too. The Southampton Academy Raiders took down the Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights 65-50. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.

Southampton Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was G Applewhite out in front who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 20 boards. Applewhite's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of J Holland, who posted 17 points.

Despite the defeat, Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot saw an underclassman step up: sophomore John Loftin almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine steals. Loftin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was JonMichael Lee, who put up six points.

Southampton Academy's record now sits at 6-7. As for Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-3.

Southampton Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 79-36 victory against Windsor on the 14th. As for Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-54 win against Banner Christian on the 14th.
