It was a good run, but the Canton Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to Holmes County Central 38-32. Canton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Holmes County Central apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played on January 2nd.
Despite the loss, Canton saw an underclassman step up: Shamira Morton dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 40.6% of Canton's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kaniyah Hawkins, who scored five points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Canton's defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-3. As for Holmes County Central, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canton will take on Gentry at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gentry is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Holmes County Central, they will be playing at home against Greenville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Greenville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Saturday.
