Softball Recap: Maranatha Christian Has No Trouble Against St. Joseph Academy

On Thursday, the Maranatha Christian Eagles got the win against the St. Joseph Academy Crusaders by a conclusive 14-4.

Hannah Visser made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Hope Fitzherbert was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Arango, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Maranatha Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Maranatha Christian's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for St. Joseph Academy, their record is now 2-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maranatha Christian will challenge Orange Glen at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Joseph Academy, they will square off against Classical Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
