The Musselman Applemen waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 59-56 victory over University. Given Musselman's advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Hawks are ranked 257th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Musselman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gavin Mcclain, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Wade Bartles, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Musselman's victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for University, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Musselman will be playing at home against the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for University, they and the Mohigans will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Morgantown has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 597 points over their last seven contests.
