This season hasn't been kind to the Smithfield-Selma Spartans, who are still winless after their 14th match. They had to suffer through a rough 66-3 loss at the hands of East Wake. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Smithfield-Selma has scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Wake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lyelah Pitters, who scored 14 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Pitters grabbed two or more steals. Cadyn Edwards was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Smithfield-Selma dropped their record down to 0-14 with that defeat, which was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for East Wake, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-12.
Smithfield-Selma will take on South Johnston at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Johnston will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for East Wake, they will head out on the road to square off against Southern Wayne at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Southern Wayne comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
