Seabreeze and St. Augustine are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Sandcrabs will welcome the Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Seabreeze is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Seabreeze fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Palm Harbor University on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hurricanes by a score of 7-6. The Sandcrabs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Tommy Hayes was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Nathaniel Anderson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Dallas Newkirk, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, St. Augustine sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Fernandina Beach on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Yellow Jackets in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won three in a row.
Maddux Dowler was excellent, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Seabreeze's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for St. Augustine, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
St. Augustine's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Seabreeze hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. It's a different story for St. Augustine, though, as they've only averaged .251. Will they be able to contain Seabreeze's hitters?
