Oley Valley has gone 9-1 against Brandywine Heights Area recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lynx will challenge the Bullets at 4:15 p.m. Oley Valley will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Thursday, Oley Valley needed a bit of extra time to put away Kutztown. They won by a run and slipped past the Cougars 5-4. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
The team relied heavily on Russell Leach, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Manwiller, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brandywine Heights Area). They blew past Conestoga Christian 12-4 on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bullets considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Brady Lieb was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jaxton Henry was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Brandywine Heights Area's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 2-10 when he doesn't). Ethan Bollinger was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Brandywine Heights Area hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive matchups.
Brandywine Heights Area's victory bumped their record up to 4-11. As for Oley Valley, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.
Brandywine Heights Area's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Oley Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. It's a different story for Brandywine Heights Area, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain Oley Valley's hitters?
Everything went Oley Valley's way against Brandywine Heights Area in their previous meeting back in April, as Oley Valley made off with a 9-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lynx since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
