Basketball Recap: Malakai Tobler's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Farmington over Copper Hills

Farmington was the 54-51 winner over Copper Hills when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Farmington Phoenix took a 71-55 bruising from the Copper Hills Grizzlies on Friday.

Farmington lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Malakai Tobler, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 20 points. The game was Tobler's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Tweden, who went 5 of 10 en route to 13 points and six rebounds.

Copper Hills was led to victory by Boston Lambourne and Isaiah Reiser. Lambourne went 9 of 16 on his way to 24 points and four steals, while Reiser went 9 of 15 on his way to 22 points. The dominant performance gave Lambourne a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Daxton Nelson, who posted nine points.

Farmington's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Copper Hills, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4.

Farmington will welcome Weber at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. Weber knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 matchups -- so hopefully Farmington likes a good challenge. As for Copper Hills, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-69 victory against Syracuse on the 7th.
