The Parker Broncs will challenge the Somerton Toros at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Parker is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Parker came up short against Chino Valley on Friday, falling 7-1. The game marked the Broncs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Parker saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rowan Holt, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Somerton ultimately got the result they hoped for last Thursday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over Odyssey Institute. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Toros as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.
Jose Valtierra Gonzalez tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Francisco Castillo, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Aceves, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Somerton's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Parker, they dropped their record down to 8-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Parker has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Somerton struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
