New Bern has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Apex Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two weeks ago, New Bern's game was all tied up 20-20 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They really took it to D.H. Conley for the full four quarters, racking up a 52-20 victory on the road. Given New Bern's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while D.H. Conley is ranked 158th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Bern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karvin Magwood, who rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Another player making a difference was Emmanuel Johnson, who rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Meanwhile, Apex took their contest on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 39-12 win over Green Hope. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-6.
Jayvion Danzy continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 292 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. Danzy hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for nine straight games.
Their wins bumped New Bern to 4-6 and Apex to 7-3.
