After a string of three wins, the Estero Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Venice at home and fell 82-28. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Estero has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Estero saw an underclassman step up: Amiya Lewis scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. Lewis scored a full 53.6% of Estero's points, the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Estero struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Venice racked up 27 assists.
It was another big night for Riley Martin, who scored 27 points for Venice. Those 27 points set a new season-high mark for her. Taylor Orris was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Estero's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3. As for Venice, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.
Estero won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Gateway at 12:20 p.m. on January 4th. Gateway is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Venice won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cypress Lake at 9:00 a.m. on January 4th. Cypress Lake will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Venice is ranked 95th).
