The Shadow Ridge Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Liberty Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Shadow Ridge is ranked third, while Liberty is ranked second).
Last Thursday, Shadow Ridge narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Arbor View 17-14.
Among those leading the charge was Coen Coloma, who rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Shadow Ridge's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Aaron Coverdell and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Liberty had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They breezed by Silverado at home to the tune of 48-6. With Liberty ahead 35-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Tyrese Smith was on fire: he threw for 140 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Andre Porter was in the mix too, providing Liberty with two touchdowns.
Shadow Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Liberty, their win was their 11th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-2.
Shadow Ridge couldn't quite finish off Liberty in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 35-32. Can Shadow Ridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
